The Charatan story
It all began in 1863 when Frederick Charatan opened a tobacco shop in Mansell Street, London. There are many stories to tell: from the Charatan family’s involvement until 1960 to the exclusive, highly popular cigars produced by Dunhill Tobacco of London in the ’90’s that made Charatan cigars the #1 Nicaraguan brand in the UK.
Nestled in Mansell Street, near the iconic Tower of London – decades before Tower Bridge was even dreamt of – a legacy of tradition, an ode to flavours and enamouring smoke was born.
Over 150 years later the story continues.
Few years ago, Tor Imports Ltd acquired Charatan from Dunhill Tobacco of London with the ambition of improving the product offering and reinvigorating the brand.
For a remarkable 160 years, the name Charatan has been synonymous with British love for exquisite tobacco in the form of premium hand-rolled cigars, pipe tobacco and handcrafted pipes.
As historic and meaningful to the United Kingdom as London’s Underground or the English Football Association, both also founded in 1863, we do not take the remarkable heritage of Charatan lightly.
Tor Imports has carefully crafted a new cigar to commemorate Charatan’s 160th Anniversary. This Special Edition is beautifully presented in luxurious blue shiny exterior box and we are honoured to be a part of unveiling this beautiful cigar to the British smokers.
